The reason is simple. You will not be paying for maintenance on a $7,000 car. You will be paying maintenance on a 15 year old, $90,000 British car. (~$65k in 2003 dollars.) I'm glad Tata has bought Jaguar/Land Rover and can hopefully in the long-term, improve it's reliability. After all, Jaguar/Land Rover had horrible reliability when owned by Ford. BMW, Audi etc. have horrible long-term reliability, as is expected from most luxury cars with the exception of Lexus. Whining of Type R's Eaton supercharger sounds great to start with but can become wearing on the driver.
