It was 48 years ago today (October 16th, 1972) that Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) officially disbanded. CCR was one of most successful acts of the late-1960's and early-'70s, racking up 11 Top 20 hits in under four years. Seeds of the band's demise came when co-founder Tom Fogerty left the previous year. Tom had been chafing artistically under the leadership of his younger brother John Creedence Clearwater Revival, also known as Creedence or CCR, was a rock band formed in the late 1950s in El Cerrito, California. The band's members included lead singer and guitarist John Fogerty, his brother Tom Fogerty on guitar, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford. The word “credence” also means “belief” or “faith”. Creedence is a dense word that sounds good and dances on the tongue. The word Clearwater was taken from a beer advert as it brings to mind a fresh and unpolluted spring. Revival was chosen to signify the rebirth of the band after the Golliwogs, with a religious connotation that Creedence Clearwater Revival is an American rock band formed in the late 1960s. The band members included John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook, Doug Clifford, and John Tristao. They are best known for their soundtrack and acting work, and have released several albums and singles that have become classics in the rock genre. Creedence Clearwater Revival had two chart-topping hits that made it a bridesmaid to the stars for decades. It wasn’t until mid-1968 until mid-1972 that they released their final studio album. The members of Creedence met when they were in Portola Junior High School, the bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug Clifford joining singer John Fogerty in a jam band. Joni Mitchell's lyric in her song honoring the famous festival, "by the time we got to Woodstock, we were half a million strong" could summarize Creedence Clearwater Revival by the time of Woodstock.
